Trevethin, Monmouthshire

Description
Trevethin, a parish in Monmouthshire, containing Pontypool town, which has a head post office. It is a very extensive parish, including also the villages of Abersychan, Gamdiffaith, Pontnewynydd, and Talywain, and the hamlets of Cwmavon, Cwmffrwdoer, Cwmnantddu, Freehold, Golynos, Farteg, Cefnycrib, Nightingale village, Pentrepeod, Snatchwood, and Tranch. Acreage, 11,060; population of the civil parish, 22,653; of the ecclesiastical, 8886. Abersychan and Pontnewynydd form separate ecclesiastical parishes. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Llandaff; net value, £350 with residence. Patrons, the Dean and Chapter of Llandaff. The church was rebuilt, with the exception of the tower, in 1847.
