"BLANDFORD ST. MARY is a small village, in a parish of its name, in the same division and hundred as Blandford, about a mile west from that town. This village is only to be noticed as having been the birth place of the celebrated antiquary, Brown Willis: his 'History of Cathedrals,' 'Notitia Parliamentoria,' and other publications, are much esteemed, and his extensive ms. collections for a history of Buckinghamshire sufficiently evince his assiduity. The whole parish contains about 400 inhabitants." [Pigot's 1830 Directory of Dorset.]
