Description
Ardsley, West, or Woodkirk, a parish in the W. R. Yorkshire, on the Leeds and Wakefield railway, 5 miles NW of Wakefield. Ardsley is the nearest railway station. It includes the hamlets of Tingley, Lee Fair, Westerton, and Beggarington, and has two post offices-one at Tingley and one at West Ardsley, both under Wakefield. Acreage, 2327; population, 3709. Coal and iron are worked, and bricks are made. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Wakefield; value, £290 with residence. Patron, the Countess of Cardigan. There are two Methodist chapels.
