Forcett, North Riding

Forcett, a village, a township, and an ecclesiastical parish in the N. R. Yorkshire, situated on the N border of the county, 4 miles SWof Piercebridge station on a branch of the N.E.R., and 7 N of Richmond. The parish contains also the townships of Eppleby, Barforth, and Ovington, the first of which has a post office under Darlington; money order and telegraph office, Aldbrough. Area of Carkin and Forcett, 2270 acres ; population, 181; of Barforth, 1738 acres; population, 121; of Ovington, 520 acres; population, 132; of Eppleby, 1117 acres; population, 500. Forcett Park is the seat of the Michells. There are large limestone quarries. The stone is conveyed to the ironworks at Middlesbro' by a single line, constructed for that purpose. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ripon; net yearly value, £140 with residence. Patron, the Vicar of Gilling. The church is ancient, and was thoroughly restored in 1859. There is a Free Methodist chapel at Eppleby.
