Farsley, a village and an ecclesiastical parish formed from Calverley parish in the W. R. Yorkshire. The village lies' near the river Aire, the Leeds and Bradford railway, and the Leeds and Lancashire railway, 4 miles NE of Bradford, and 1 mile from Calverley Bridge station on the M.R., and has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Leeds. Th& parish was constituted in 1844, and includes the villages of Parsley, Beck Bottom, and Bagley. Population, 5255. The-district is governed by a local board. The manufacture of cloth is the chief industry. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ripon; net value, £195 with residence. Patron, the Vicar of Calverley. The church is modern. There are-Baptist, Wesleyan, and United Methodist chapels, a Baptist institute with library and reading-room, Liberal and Conservative clubs, and two Board schools.
