Description
Wilsford, a parish in Wiltshire, on the river Avon, 1 1/2 mile SW of Amesbury, and 5 miles NW of Porton station on the L. & S.W.R. Post town, Amesbury, under Salisbury. Acreage, 2294; population of civil parish, 197; of ecclesiastical, with Woodford cum Lake, 585. Wilsford House is the seat of the Loder family. Lake House was the seat of the antiquary Duke, author of the " Druidical Temples of Wilts." Many barrows are on the downs. The living is a vicarage, united with Woodford, in the diocese of Salisbury; net value, £213 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Salisbury. The church was rebuilt in 1858, and contains monuments to the Duke family.
