Description
Upton Lovell, a parish in Wiltshire, on the river Wiley, 2 miles SE of Heytesbury station on the G.W.R. It has a post and money order office under Bath; telegraph office, Heytesbury. Acreage, 1424; population, 233. The manor belonged anciently to the Lovells. An ingeniously constructed bridge here spans the Wiley. A large woollen cloth factory is in the village. There are large tumuli and other antiquities. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Salisbury; net value, £200 with residence. Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The church is a small edifice with a low square tower.
