Hill Deverill, Wiltshire

Deverill-Hill, a parish in Wilts, on the Deverill rivulet, 3 1/2 miles S of Warminster town and station on the G.W.R. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Warminster. Acreage, 1548; population of the civil parish, 111; of the ecclesiastical, 129. The Ludlows were sometime seated here, and General Ludlow was horn in the vicinity. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Salisbury; value, £63. Patron, the Marquis of Bath. The church has a fine old monument of one of the Ludlows.
