Description
Whatcote, a parish in Warwickshire, 4 miles SE of Ettington station on the East and West Junction railway, and 4 1/2 NE of Shipston-on-Stour. Post town, Shipston-on-Stour. Acreage, 878; population, 111. The Earl of Macclesfield is lord of the manor. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Worcester; net value, £85 with residence. Patron, the Earl of Macclesfield. The church is chiefly Perpendicular, and has a tower which dates from various times, partly Saxon, and has a Saxon font. Some of the sittings are of the 15th century, handsomely carved. There are some ancient brasses and tablets. The churchyard contains a sun-dial formed of the steps and shaft of an ancient cross.
