Description
Shustoke, a village and a parish in Warwickshire. The village stands 2 1/2 miles NE of Coleshill, and 12 E by N of Birmingham. It has a station on the Leicester and Birmingham branch of the M.R., and a post and money order office under Birmingham; telegraph office, Whitacre railway station. the parish includes also the hamlet and chapelry of Bentley and the hamlet of Blyth. Acreage, 4061; population, 712. There is a parish council consisting of six members, Shustoke Hall is the seat of the Croxall family Blyth Hall was the seat of the antiquary Dugdale, and is still the residence of the family. The living is a vicarage, with Bentley chapelry, in the diocese of Worcester; net value, £171 with residence. Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The parochial church is Early English, and has a tower and spire. It was restored in 1873, but in 1886 great damage was done by a fire caused by lightning, and it was again restored in 1887. It contains an altar-tomb to Sir William Dugdale. Bentley church was built in 1837. There are almshouses.
