Hambledon, a village and a parish in Surrey. The village stands 1 1/2 mile NE of Witley station on the L. & S.W.E., and 3 1/2 miles S of Godalming, and has a post office under Godal-ming; money order office, Godalming; telegraph office, Witley railway station. The parish comprises 1540 acres; population of the civil parish, 535; of the ecclesiastical, 409. The parish is traversed by the range of sandstone hills which form one of the leading features in the romantic scenery of SW Surrey. Eoek Hill, Mervel Hill, and Burgate haughs are the most picturesque parts. The Bargate stone is an excellent and durable building material. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Winchester; value, £240 with residence. Patron, the Earl of Radnor. The church, St Peter's, is Early English, rebuilt in 1846. The workhouse is at the verge of the parish.
