Chaldon, Surrey

Description
Chaldon, a parish in Surrey, near the Brighton and the Caterham railways, 2 miles NE by N of Merstham station, and 5 NE of Reigate. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Caterham. Acreage, 1644; population, 280. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Rochester; net value, £214 with residence. The church is partly Early English with a spire, and was restored in 1870. During the restoration a fresco, supposed to date from about 1200, was discovered on the west wall.
