Description
Woolverstone, a parish in Suffolk, on the river Orwell, 4 miles from Ipswich station on the G.E.R. Post town, Ipswich. Acreage, 960; population, 309. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. The manor, with Woolverstone Hall, belongs to the Berners family. An obelisk, 96 feet high, was erected in 1793 to the memory of W. Berners, Esq. The living is a rectory, annexed to Erwarton. The church, situated in the centre of Woolverstone Park, is in the Decorated style, and was enlarged in 1889, the original church being made the S aisle.
