Description
Spexhall, a village and a parish in Suffolk, 2 miles NNW of Halesworth station on the East Suffolk branch of the G.E.R. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Halesworth. Acreage, 1838; population, 199. The manor belongs to Lady Bateman. The manor house is a chief residence. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich; net value, £190 with residence. Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The church is an ancient edifice of flint in the Norman and Early English styles of architecture, and consists of chancel, nave, and S porch, with wooden bell-turret. It formerly had a round tower, but this is now only an ivy-clad ruin.
