Sibton, a parish in Suffolk, 3 miles Wot Darsham station on the Ipswich and Lowestoft section of the G.E.R., and 5 1/4N by W of Saxmundham. Post town, Yoxford, under Saxmundham; money order and telegraph office, Peasenhall. Acreage, 2777; population of the civil parish, 475; of the ecclesiastical, 495. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. Sibton Park, a seat of the Brooke family, is a fine mansion standing in a park of about 142 acres. Sibton Abbey House is a chief residence. The manor belongs to the Scrivener family. A Cistercian abbey was founded here in 1149 by William de Cheney, was a splendid edifice, and has left some ruins. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Norwich; net value, £150 with residence. The church is a fine building of flint in the Early English style. There is a Primitive Methodist chapel.
