Description
Saxtead, a parish, with a village, in Suffolk, on the river Aide, 2 1/2 miles NW of Framlingham station on the G.E.R. It has a post office under Framlingham (R.S.O.); money order and telegraph office, Dennington. Acreage, 1209; population of the civil parish, 352; of the ecclesiastical, with Framlingham, 2877. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. The living is a rectory, annexed to Framlingham, in the diocese of Norwich; joint net value, £800 with residence. Patron, Pembroke College, Cambridge. The church is a Gothic building of stone, consisting of chancel, nave, S porch, and belfry. Saxtead Green is a hamlet 1 mile S.
