Description
Risby, a parish, with a village, in Suffolk, half a mile NE of Saxham station on the G.E.R., and 4 miles WNW of Bury St Edmunds. It has a post office under Bury St Edmunds; money order and telegraph office, Lackford. Acreage, 2818 ; population, 400. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. There are several barrows in the parish. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Ely; net value, £400 with residence. Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The church is an ancient building of flint chiefly in the Decorated Gothic style, consisting of chancel, nave, S porch, and a round embattled western tower, and contains a carved screen, and tablets to the Danbys, the Wastells, the Sparks, and the Aldersons.
