Peasenhall, Suffolk

Description
Peasenhall, a village and a parish in Suffolk. The village stands on the river Minsmere, 3 1/2 miles W of Darsham station on the Ipswich and Lowestoft section of the G.E.R.,and 4 1/2 NNW of Saxmundham, and has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Saxmundham. The parish comprises 2184 acres; population of the civil parish, 801; of the ecclesiastical, 781. There is a parish council consisting of eleven members. There are assembly-rooms, which are used for parochial meetings and public entertainments, and there is a mechanics' institute. There is an extensive agricultural implement manufactory, which was established about 1800. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Norwich; net value, £185 with residence. The church was almost wholly rebuilt in 1861, and is in the Later English style. There are Congregational and Wesleyan chapels, and the Plymouth Brethren have a meeting-room. An almshouse was built in 1891, and there are some small charities.
