Layham, a parish in Suffolk, on the river Brett, 1 1/2 mile 8 by E from Hadleigh station on the G.E.R. It has a post office under Hadleigh (K.S.O.); money order and telegraph office, Hadleigh. Acreage, 2531; population of the civil parish, 542; of the ecclesiastical, 521. The manors of Over-bury Hall and Netherbury Hall belong to the Dipnall family. Holbecks, Overbnry Hall, and Moat Hall are chief residences. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Ely; net value, £520 with residence. Patron, St John's College, Cambridge. The church is a building of flint in the Decorated style.
