Kedington, Suffolk

Description
Kedington or Ketton, a village and a parish in Suffolk, but part of the latter in Essex. The village stands on the river Stour, 2 1/2 miles ENE from Haverhill station on the G.E.R., and has a post office under Haverhill; money order and telegraph, Haverhill. The parish contains also Brockley Green and the Risbridge Workhouse. Acreage, 2406, of which 773 are in Essex; population in Suffolk, 747; in Essex, 109. The manor was known at Domesday as Keditune, belonged to the Baynards, and passed to the Earls of Clare and the Bamardistons. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Ely; net value, £500 with residence. The church is neat and good, and contains many ancient and handsome monuments. The workhouse is a large building of red brick, with accommodation for about 650 inmates.
