Hundon, Suffolk

Description
Hundon, a village and a parish in Suffolk. The village stands 3 1/2 miles N by W from Clare station on the G.E.K., and 6 NE by E from Haverhill. There is a post and money order office under Clare '(RS.O.); telegraph office, Clare. The parish comprises 4551 acres; population, 838. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ely; gross value, about £200 with residence. Patron, Jesus' College, Cambridge. The church is a fine and ancient building of flint, chiefly in the Perpendicular style, and consists of nave, aisles, and chancel, with a porch and tower. An adjoining chapel contains a pyramidal monument to Arethusa, daughter of Lord Clifford, and wife of the Hon. James Vernon. There is a Congregational chapel, and also a valuable charity managed by trustees, which produces about £150 a year.
