Description
Hitcham, a parish in Suffolk, near the river Bret, 1 1/2 mile NNW from Bildestone, and 6 miles E by N from Lavenham station on the G.E.R. It has a post office under Bildestone (S.O.); money order and telegraph office, Bildestone.. Acreage, 4308; population of the civil parish, 874; of the ecclesiastical, 856. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Ely; net value, £680. Patron, the Crown. The church is a large and handsome building of flint in the Later English style, and has a carved roof and tower. Bnrkitt the commentator was a native.
