Felixstowe, Suffolk

Description
Felixstowe or Felixtow, a parish in Suffolk, on the coast, between the rivers Deben and Stour, near Bawdsey Haven and Landguard Fort, 5 miles NE of Harwich by steam ferry, and 11^ SE of Ipswich. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office (R.S.O.), and a station on the G.E.R. Acreage, 1921 of land and 517 of tidal water and foreshore; popula-""tion, 1584. A small headland bears the name of Felixstowe ' Point. Since the opening of the railway the village has become a place of summer resort, and three large hotels and numerous lodging-houses have been erected for the accommodation of visitors. It possesses good cliffs and sands, is well lighted and drained, and has an ample supply of water drawn from a deep artesian well bored into the chalk. Its golf links have more than a local reputation, and its golf club, which was formed in 1880, has now about 500 members.
