Erwarton, Suffolk

Erwarton or Arwarton, a village and a parish in Suffolk, on the river Stour, 2 1/2 miles NNW from Dovercourt station on the G.E.R., and 3^ NNW of Harwich, both on the opposite side of the Stour. Post town and money order office, Shotley under Ipswich; telegraph office, Chalmondiston. Acreage, 1306 of land and 410 of water and foreshore; population of the civil parish, 183; of the ecclesiastical, with Woolverstone, 492. The manor belonged in the 14th century to the Bacons, passed to the Drurys and the Parkers, and belongs now to the Berners family. The living is a rectory, united with the rectory of Woolverstone, in the diocese of Norwich; gross value, £493 with residence. The church is a building of flint in the Perpendicular style.
