Debenham, Suffolk

Description
Debenham, a small town and a parish in Suffolk. The town stands on the side of a hill, near the source of the river Deben, 7 miles W from Framlingham station on the G.E.R., and 10 NNE of Needham Market, and has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Stonhain, and formerly had a weekly market on Friday, and a fair on 24 June. The parish comprises 3322 acres; population, 1219. The manor belonged to Butley Priory, and passed to the Fram-linghams, the Gandys, the Pitts, the Bridges, and others, and is now the property of Lord Henniker. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Norwich; value, £142 with residence. Patron, Lord Henniker. The church is a building of stone and flint, chiefly in the Perpendicular and Early English styles; and there are a Congregational chapel, a bank, a mechanics' institute, an endowed school, and charities worth about £150 a year.
