Description
Dilhorne, a village and a parish in Staffordshire, 3 miles WSW of Cheadle, and 2 N of Blyth Bridge station on the North Staffordshire railway, with a post office under Stoke-upon-Trent; money order office, Blyth Bridge; telegraph office, Blyth Bridge railway station. The parish also in-eludes the township of Forsbrook and the hamlets of Whit-hurst and Boundary. Acreage, 3776 ; population of the civil parish, 1770 ; of the ecclesiastical, 734. Dilhorne Hall, the seat of the Manningham-Buller family, is the chief residence. The Foxfield colliery is in this parish. Much of the land was formerly heatli, but has been reclaimed and planted. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lichfield; net value, £245 with residence. Patrons, the Dean and Chapter of Lichfield. The church was built in the 12th century, and .has an octagonal tower; it was repaired in 1819, and again in 1868. The vicarage of Forsbrook is a separate benefice. There is a Wcsleyan chapel.
