Ratlinghope, Shropshire

Description
Ratlinghope, a township and a parish in Salop. The township lies on the river Onny, 4 1/4 miles WNW of Church Stretton. The parish contains also the township of Stitt-with-Gatten, and its post town is Pontesbury, under Shrewsbury; money order and telegraph office, Church Stretton. Acreage, 5533; population, 222. Part of the land is waste. A thin vein of copper ore has been found. A priory of Austin canons was founded in the reign of King John as a cell to Wigmore Abbey, in Herefordshire. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Hereford; net value, £74 with residence. The church is a small ancient edifice.
