Priors Lee, Shropshire

Description
Priors Lee, a village and an ecclesiastical parish in Shifnal parish, Salop. The village stands adjacent to Watling Street, 1 mile ESE of Oakengates station on the G.W.R. and L. & N.W.R., and 3 WNW of Shifnal, and has a post office under Shifnal; money order and telegraph office, St George's. The ecclesiastical parish was constituted in 1863. Population, 1934. For parish council purposes it forms a ward of Shifnal parish, and returns seven members to that council. Priors Lee Hall is the chief residence. The Lilieshall Iron Company have collieries, iron mines, blast furnaces,. steel-works, foundries, brickworks, and rolling-mills here. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lichfield; net value, £240. Patron, the Vicar of Shifnal. The church was rebuilt in 1836 and restored in 1887. There are Primitive and United Methodist and Wesleyan chapels.
