Description
Ford, a township and a parish in Salop. The township lies on the river Severn, near Watling Street, 5 1/2 miles W by N of Shrewsbury, and has a post and money order office under Shrewsbury; telegraph office, Montford Bridge. The parish comprises 1202 acres; population of the civil parish, 357; of the ecclesiastical, 366. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Hereford; net value, £154 with residence. The church is ancient, contains a carved screen and reredos, and was enlarged and partly rebuilt in 1875. There is a United Free Methodist chapel.
