Burwarton, Shropshire

Burwarton, a village and a parish in Salop, on the slopes of the Brown Clee Hill, 9 miles SW of Bridgnorth, and 9 1/2 NE from Ludlow, with a post, money order, and telegraph office. Acreage of parish, 1248; population, 230. Burwarton Hall is a seat of Viscount Boyne, who is lord of the manor; the mansion is in the Italian style, and the grounds extend to a considerable height on the Brown Clee Hill. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Hereford; net value, £300 with residence. Patron, Viscount Boyne. The church was built in 1876 to replace the old Norman church. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
