Battlefield, Shropshire

Description
Battlefield, a village and a parish in Salop. The village is 2 miles S by E of Hadnall station on the L. & N.W.R., and 3 NNE of Shrewsbury, which is the post town. Acreage, 1025; population, 97. Here was fought the battle of Shrewsbury in 1403, in which Harry Hotspur was slain and Douglas captured. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lichfield; gross value, £240. The church was erected by Henry IV. to commemorate his victory over Hotspur, is chiefly Perpendicular English, with a fine embattled tower, and was restored in 1861 at a cost of £4000.
