Tickencote, Rutland

Description
Tickencote, a small village and a parish in Rutland, 3 miles NW of Stainford station on the G.N.R., M.R., and L. & N.W.R. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Stamford. Acreage, 1293; population, 118. The manor has belonged to the Wingfield family since the reign of Queen Elizabeth, and their residence is at Tickencote Hall. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough; net value, £113 with residence. The church is of great antiquity. It contains a remarkable chancel arch, dating from about 1130, and a priest's chamber over the chancel. The nave was rebuilt 1792, and the present tower added.
