Description
Stoke Lyne, a parish, with Fewcott and Bainton hamlets, Oxfordshire, 4 1/2 miles NNW of Bicester station on the L. & N.W.R. It has a post office under Bicester; money order office, Fringford; telegraph office, Stratton Audley. Acreage, 3901; population of the civil parish, 511; of the ecclesiastical, with Caversfield and Fewcott, 639. There is a parish council which consists of six members. The manor, with Swifts House, belongs to the Peyton family. The living is a vicarage, with Caversfield and Fewcott annexed, in the diocese of Oxford; joint net value, £171 with residence. The church is a small but ancient edifice of stone in mixed styles, consisting of chancel, nave, S porch, and an embattled tower. There is a chapel of ease with a parsonage and school at Fewcott.
