Description
Shilton, a parish, with a village, in Oxfordshire, 4 miles from Bampton station on the G.W.R. It has a post office under Faringdon; money order and telegraph office, Burford. Acreage, 1604; population, 237. There is a parish council consisting of five members. The manor belongs to the Wyndham family. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Oxford; net value, £70. The church is an ancient building in mixed styles, and consists of chancel, nave, S aisle, N porch, and an embattled western tower. The font is one of the finest in the kingdom. There is a Baptist chapel.
