Description
Shifford, a township and a chapelry in Bampton civil parish and Bampton Aston ecclesiastical parish, Oxfordshire, on the river Isis, 5 1/2 miles SSE of Witney station on the G.W.R. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Bampton, under Faringdon. Acreage, 775; population, 31. The manor belongs to the Harcourt family. A great council was held, here by Alfred. The living is annexed to Bampton Aston. The church, which was erected in 1863, is a small Gothic building consisting of chancel and nave only.
