Description
Hampton Poyle, a village and a parish in Oxfordshire, on the river Cherwell, 1 1/2 mile NE from Ridlington station on the G.W.R., and 4 1/2 E from Woodstock. Post town, Oxford; money order and telegraph office, Ridlington. Acreage, 807; population, 106. The manor belonged formerly to the family of Poyle, and now belongs to Viscount Va-lentia. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Oxford; net yearly value, £86. Patron, Queen's College, Oxford. The church was built in the 14th century, has in the chancel a good Early Decorated English window, and contains two fine effigies of a cross-legged warrior and his lady, and a brass of John Poyle of 1424.
