Alvescott, a village and a parish in Oxfordshire, with a station on the G.W.R, 3 1/2 miles WNW from Bampton, and a post office (S.O. Oxon); money order office, Filkins; telegraph office, Bampton. Acreage, 2081; population, 390. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Oxford; net yearly value, £225 with residence. The church is an ancient building of stone, in mixed styles, with plain Perpendicular tower. There is a Particular Baptist chapel and some small charities.
