Adwell, a parish in Oxfordshire, near the Chiltern Hills, 2 miles SSE of Tetsworth, and 3 NE from Aston Rowant station on the G.W.R. Post town, Tetsworth, which is the money order and telegraph office. Acreage, 434; population of the civil parish, 68 ; of the ecclesiastical, with South Weston, 161. Adwell House is the chief residence. Adwell Cop is an ancient entrenchment supposed to have been constructed by the Danes when they burnt Oxford in 1010. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Oxford, annexed to South Weston; joint net yearly value, £272. The church, a building of flint and stone in mixed styles, was restored very thoroughly in 1865. Adwell House is the seat of the Reynardson family.
