Description
Wollaton, a village, a township, and a parish in Notts, 1 3/4 mile W of Radford station on the M.R., and 3 miles W of Nottingham, with a post office under Nottingham; money order and telegraph office, Old Radford. Acreage, 2097; population of the civil parish, 654; of the ecclesiastical, 1483. Wollaton Hall was built in 1588 by Sir F. Willoughby, is in the florid Tudor style, was attacked in 1831 by the Reform rioters, and is the seat of Lord Middleton, who is lord of the manor. There is a colliery. The living is a rectory, united with Cossall, in the diocese of Southwell; net value, £482 with residence. Patron, Lord Middleton. The church is in the Perpendicular style, and consists of chancel, nave, and western tower with spire.
