Description
Staunton, a village, a township, and a parish in Notts. The township lies on the river Devon, 2 1/2 miles N of Bottesford station on the G.N.R. There is a post and telegraph office of the name of Staunton-in-the-Vale under Nottingham; money order office, Long Bennington. Acreage of township, 1372; population, 95; of the ecclesiastical parish, 178. The manor, with Stauuton Hall, has belonged to the Staunton family since the Norman Conquest. The parish includes Flawborough township and chapelry. The living is a rectory, with Flawborough annexed, in the diocese of Southwell; gross value, £349 with residence. Patron, the Staunton family. The church was restored in 1854, is in the Perpendicular style, and consists of chancel, nave, and tower.
