Rampton, Nottinghamshire

Description
Rampton, a village and a parish in Notts. The village stands 1 1/2 mile W of the river Trent, 1 1/4 from Cottam station on the M.S. & L.R., and 6 1/2 miles ESE of East Retford, and has a post and money order office under Lincoln; telegraph office, Newton-on-Trent. The parish comprises 2158 acres of land and 52 of tidal water and foreshore; population, 341. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. The manor belonged to the Babingtons, and passed to the Stanhopes and to the Eyres, to whom it still belongs. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Southwell; net value, £174 with residence. Patron, the Crown, The church contains monuments of the Babingtons, the Stanhopes, and Eyres. There are a Wesleyan chapel and an endowed school.
