Description
Granby, a village and a parish in Notts. The village stands near the source of the river Devon, the Grantham Canal, and the boundary with Leicestershire, 1 mile from Barnston railway station, and 4 SE by E of Bingham. Post town, Nottingham; money order and telegraph office, Barnston. The parish includes also the hamlet of Sutton. Acreage, 2311; population, 439. The manor belongs to the Duke of Rutland, and gives his eldest son the title of marquis. Gypsum is found. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Southwell; net yearly value, £195 with residence. Patron, the Duke of Rutland. The church was restored in 1888, at a cost of £1400. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
