Description
Milfield, a village and a township in Kirknewton parish, Northumberland. The village stands on the river Till, 4 1/4 miles NW of Wooler, and 3 from Akeld station on the N.E.R; is the Maelmain of Bede, was a seat of the kings of North-umbria, and has a post and money order office under Wooler (R.S.O.); telegraph office, Crookham. The township comprises 1540 acres; population, 172. Milfield Hill is a chief residence. Milfield Plain was the scene of a discomfiture of the Scots by Bulmer before the battle of Flodden Several Roman relics have been found. There is a Primitive Methodist chapel.
