Description
Stanion, a parish in Northamptonshire, 2 miles SE from Corby station on the Kettering and Nottingham section of the M.R., and 6 NE from Kettering. It has a post office under Thrapston; money order and telegraph office, Brig-=stock. Acreage, 1644; population, 312. The manor belongs to the Countess of Cardigan. The living is a perpetual curacy, annexed to Brigstock; joint gross value, £260 with residence, in the gift of Lord Barnard. The church is a building of stone in the Gothic style, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles, S porch, and a western tower surmounted by a fine spire. In it is preserved a huge fossil bone about 6 feet in length, known locally as " the Dun Cow's Rib," but the history of which is unknown.
