Description
Islip, a village and a parish in Northamptonshire. The village stands on the river Nene, half a mile WNW of Thrapston station on the L. & N.W.R. and M.R., and has a post office under Thrapston; money order and telegraph office, Thrap-ston. The parish comprises 1392 acres; population, 539. The manufacture of rush collars and matting is carried on. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough; net value, £270 with residence. The church is a fine building of stone in the Late Perpendicular style, consists of nave, aisles, and chance!, with tower and crocketed spire, and was restored in 1854. There are charities worth about £100 a year.
