Guilsborough, a village and a parish in Brixworth union, Northamptonshire. The village stands 4 miles W from Brixworth station on the L. & N.W.R., and 10 NW by N from Northampton. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Northampton. The parish includes also the hamlets of Nortoft and Holywell. Acreage, 2248; population, 558. The manor belongs to the Ward-Boughton-Leighs. Guilsborough Hall was formerly the seat of the Belchier family, and shows various styles of architecture. A Roman camp lies between the sources of the Avon and the Nen; measures about 600 feet by 300; is encompassed by a single fosse and vallum, and bears the name of Borough Hill. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Peterborough; net yearly value, £484 with residence. The church is of the 15th century, and consists of nave, aisles, and chancel, with tower and spire. The vicarage of Holywell is a separate benefice. There is a Baptist chapel and an endowed grammar school.
