Description
Charwelton, a village and a parish in Northamptonshire, on the verge of the county, at the head of the river Cherwell, 5 miles SSW of Daventry, and 2 NW of Byfield station on the Eastern and Western Junction railway. There is a post office under Byfield (R.S.O.); money order and telegraph office, Byfield. Acreage, 2353; population, 203. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough; gross yearly value, £508. The church, which is an ancient building of stone in the Perpendicular style, has two brasses of the 15th century, and a sculptured octagonal font. There is a small Wesleyan chapel erected in 1887.
