Description
Shelfanger, a parish, with a village, in Norfolk, 2 1/2 miles W of Burston station, and 3 1/4 NNW of Diss station, both on the Ipswich and Norwich section of the G.E.R. It has a post office under Diss; money order and telegraph office, Diss. Acreage, 1725; population, 308. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. The manor belongs to the Duke of Norfolk, who is sole landowner. There are two valuable mineral springs in the parish, which are used for medicinal and table purposes. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich; net value, £373 with residence. The church is an ancient structure of flint, in the Perpendicular style, and there are Baptist and Wesleyan chapels.
