Description
Sedgeford, a parish, with a village, in Norfolk, on the Hunstanton and West Norfolk (G.E.) Junction railway, 12 1/2 miles NNE of Lynn. It has a station on the railway, and a post, money order, and telegraph office under Kings Lynn. Acreage, 4217; population, 691. There is a parish council consisting of eight members. The manor belongs to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners. Sedgeford Hall is a chief residence. The living is a vicarage, united to the sinecure rectory of Sonthmere, in the diocese of Norwich; net value, £340 with residence. Patrons, the Dean and Chapter of Norwich and Eton College alternately. The church, dedicated to St Mary, is an ancient Gothic structure of stone and flint, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles, transept, N and S porches, and a round tower surmounted by an octagonal belfry stage. It was restored in 1882. There are Primitive Methodist and Wesleyan chapels and some small charities.
