Description
Rockland St Mary, a village and a parish in Norfolk. The village stands near " a broad " of the river Tare, 3 miles WSW of Buckenham Ferry station on the Norwich and Yarmouth section of the G.E.R., and 6 SE by E of Norwich. It has a post office, of the name of Rockland, under Norwich; money order office, Norwich; telegraph office, Brundall. The parish comprises 1361 acres; population, 438. The chief manor belongs to the Rich family. There are market-gardens, brick-fields, and an iron foundry. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich; net value, £261 with residence. The church, which is a small building in the Gothic style, has a tower, and the churchyard contains ivy-clad ruins of another church, called Rockland St Margaret or Little Eockland. There is a Primitive Methodist chapel.
